Happy Friday! I hope you're looking forward to the weekend as much as I am!
Today was yet another great selection by Craft Beer Cellar! We were able to enjoy Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. Golden in color it was very good, but heavy with a bourbon finish.
The 12 ounce bottle provided 8.1 % alcohol content, a doozie!
I did a bit of research and learned that the ale is the finished product of Kentucky Ale and then aged for six weeks in a once use bourbon barrel. This is where it receives its vanilla and caramel tastes that some people say pairs well as an after dinner drink or with dessert. It's also suggested to pair this with ribs or other smoked meats.
This beer is brewed by Alltech Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company in Lexington, Kentucky and their website is full of great recipes (Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale Ribs) and they also distill Bourbon and Rye (I've no idea what Rye is!)! Check out their website here: Kentucky Ale. I also learned on this website that there's something called the Kentucky Bourbon Trail...this sounds like a cool vacation spot! I'm not much on bourbon but this sounds fun! Check it out here: kybourbontrail.com!
Beer Advocate says this is an English Strong Ale, a unique (for sure!) sipping beer with the nose of well-crafted bourbon. Sign me up!! I bet it'd go great with the Bourbon balls I used to make at Christmas!
They scored it an 82, but Todd gave it a 4.5 and I think I'm probably at a 4...I only have a few sips so it's hard to really tell!
I suggest trying this beer, it's pretty, it had good flavor and people rave about it (other than Beer Advocate...I wonder what they score in the 90's!)
Want to taste something similar, our very own Cigar City Brewing Campeador-Greaves is suggested as a 'recommendation by style'
Want to give it a shot....of course, reach out to Craft Beer Cellar or try it at tons of local places! LBC in Palm Harbor, World of Beer Tampa (Fowler), Dunedin House of Beer, Fords Garage (Brandon), Daiquiri Shak (Madiera Beach) and one of my favorite places, Stein & Vine (Brandon).
Until tomorrow---Enjoy!!
