What an excellent pick from Craft Beer Cellar today! Tonight we enjoyed beer and coffee with a selection from Rivertown Brewing in Cincinnati, Ohio.
This was excellent. I loved the vanilla flavor and the coffee flavors in this beer. It was, however, an Imperial Porter which does make this extra strong. A dark brown color, it was full of flavor and alcohol content at 7.80%
Rivertown Brewing was the dream of the founder, Jason Roeper and much like me, he struggled his way through, didn't take no for an answer and in 2009 they got their start.
This particular beer is described as a big chocolate, espresso infused brownie with fresh organic Ugandan vanilla beans, organic Peruvian coffee and natural raw cane sugar....OHMYGOSH!
Admittedly I was curious what a Ugandan vanilla bean was, so I Googled it...and apparently vanilla in Uganda is incredible. There's an earthy aroma with tones of milk-chocolate making them perfect for desserts and chocolates. (I bet that makes some good kahlua too!)
Beer Advocate rates this one an 84 and I can completely see why. Other than being a bit heavy, I scored it a 4.5 stars, the flavor was amazing. I'm not sure how many of them I could drink though and still be able to stand! LOL
Rivertown also has a winter ale-Cinnamon & Molasses Spiced Beer...sounds pretty good to me! They also carry a White Wheat, a porter, a blonde, a Session IPA, a Blueberry Lager, a Pumpkin Ale, and some sours....not a fan of those, so we'll just skip that, unless one appears in the box! :)
If you're ever in Cincinnati, I might suggest you check them out. Their brewery & barrel house has free arcade games, you can take a tour, eat BBQ, watch games, eat wings, have Sunday brunch....oh, and try their beers! I've never been to Cincinnati, but I have somewhere to check out if I go!
