It's 84* in Florida, the weather is downright crazy!
A week or so ago I purchased an "Advent Beer Box" from Craft Beer Cellar on Hwy. 60 in Brandon. I saw it advertised on their Facebook page and thought it was a cool idea, forgot about it for a couple weeks and ended up ordering their 'last one' on Tuesday last week as an early Christmas present for Todd (and maybe for me too). I picked it up on Wednesday and could not wait for today so we could start the process.
Here's what it looked like when I picked it up...
I thought it was super cute and realized if I knew what to put in it, I probably could have made it myself for him. However, I don't have any idea what's in there either and there's a bit of fun associated with that.
I'm not sure when I began to drink craft beer. I've always enjoyed beer (or wine, vodka-equal opportunity drinking I call it~ Don't judge!)! The first time I met Todd we met at a brewery (in November 2009) ... maybe it was then, maybe it was before but I do enjoy good beer.
Anyway--so tonight we were able to dive into the box! I've been looking forward to this all day! My goal in these posts will be to unveil the beer of the day....share whether I liked it or not and then tell you what the pros say (thanks, Beer Advocate) AND where (if you're local) you can find it....besides Craft Beer Cellar in Brandon!
FINALLY! Tonight's choice was Affligem Blonde and it was given 4.5 stars by Todd and I have to agree. It was tasty, light and crisp. The only negative from me was that the bottle was only 10.1 oz vs. a standard 12 oz bottle.
So, what about the BEER?!
It's brewed by Brouwerij De Semdt in Belgium. It's considered a Belgian Pale Ale. The ABV was 6.8% which could explain why it's in a smaller bottle!
Beer Advocate scores it an 88, which they say is "Very Good"
The aroma is lemon/hops and it's golden in color with a lot of foam. Tasting notes in my research say Honey and spice with a velvety smooth clean finish and I'd agree. This should be served in chalise style glass which we definitely did not do as you'll see by the pictures :)
Want to try this on tap locally? Check out Champions Sports Bar on Florida Ave in Tampa ... Want to get a bottle? I bet Craft Beer Cellar Brandon has one!
All in all, day one was an excellent choice!
