Tonight's selection comes from Quebec, Canada and it's the first one we've had from Canada in this box. It was a golden blonde color and a Tripel style with.... 9% alcohol. I mean it wasn't terrible by any means but I hoped it to be better than it was.
This is a beer I should have liked....it has champagne like bubbles!! I'm totally blaming the headache! Maybe I'll have to try this one again sometime! #Iwantadoover
This beer is brewed by Unibroue and there's a legend about this particular beer. It recreates the style of beer originally developed in the Middle Ages by trappist monks for special occasions. It's a neat story--go check it out on their website and watch the video (www.unibroue.com) . There's also a video about its characteristics, serving temperature and the correct glass to serve it in...we did NOT have the correct glass, but....we made due.
One of the things I liked best about this website is the food pairings that they share for their beers! Tonight's selection is recommended to be paired with things I love! Salty blue cheese, mussels, salmon, scallops sausage (and game, but I don't love that!)
I was surprised tonight by the date on the bottle which indicated this beer was best by 2018 which seemed like a long time away in my opinion. Their website however, explains that like wine, over time their beers become smoother and this has a potential aging time of 3-5 years. The high alcohol content certainly helps with that!
Beer Advocate scores this one the highest we've seen at a 96! In addition, there are 2864 reviews on Beer Advocate's website about this particular beer. I must have missed something. Todd gave it a 3.75 star tonight.
The local spots you can look for this one, of course is Craft Beer Cellar in Brandon and World of Beer in St. Petersburg as well as World of Beer in Tampa (Fowler).
Check it out, I'm going to try it again, post-headache!
Night Night!
